One thing I noticed after being in the motorcycle industry for the last 10 years is how much junk products there are out there. And this goes for motorcycle sound systems as much as any other product. Junk might not be the best word to use so I will switch to "copycat look-alikes". When the first 2" Bullet Speakers were manufactured by Cycle Sounds (formally know as 2 Wheel Tunes) a few years back the "copycats" were out in full force with 1 year. Let me tell you from experience, nobody, and I mean nobody, builds a better motorcycle speaker system than Cycle Sounds. This past year they have really out done themselves when the introduced the 2.5" and amazing 3" Motorcycle Sound Systems. They will play off any music source that uses a standard 3.5MM earphone jack. This includes iPods, MP3's, Satellite Radios, and more.
The 2.5" speakers pump out 75 watts per channel, can be mounted on top or under the handlebars, and are twice as loud as the original 2" Bullet Speaker System.
The 3" speakers (pictured)crank out an unbelievable 100 watts per channel, have waterproof speakers and amplify, and can hook up to qany music source the uses a standard 3.5MM earphone jack.
This is the real plus when it comes to these motorcycle speaker systems. They are the only motorcycle speakers on the planet that have met the strict ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) compliance standards. This means 1) 500 hrs of salt spray; Our motorcycle speaker systems won't rust or corrode 2) UV Stability; The sun won’t rot the speakers 3) Vibration Proof; Our motorcycle speakers work great in a high vibration environment 4) Water Resistance; Water won’t hurt our amplifier or speakers 5) Thermal Tested; With temperatures ranging from -30° F to 150° F.
If that last paragraph doesn't sell you I dont know what will. But lets forget about the technical mumbo-jumbo for just a second and go back to the basic question I get all the time.
"How do I decide which motorcycle sound system to buy for my bike?" Ok here is they way I break it down.
The 2" Bullet systems are for quite bikes with motors 500cc and smaller. They also work great on scooters and golf carts.
The 2.5" Speaker systems are designed for riders with have stock pipes and use a windshield for highway riding.
And the 3" Sound Systems are for the bikes with aftermarket loud pipes, no windshield, and people who just can't keep ther bike under 65 MPH.
To be totally honest with you, you can't go wrong with the 2.5' or 3" system for just about any motorcycle. I hve personally installed over 200 systems at rallies and our shop and couln't be more impressed with the quality of the Cycle Sounds motorcycle sound systems.
